Do you have an idea or a dream of a project that you think will help Egypt's development?

There are different approaches for development and at Nahdet El Mahrousa, we believe the best approach for Egypt's development is to nurture nascent ideas into nation-wide projects to improve the lives of Egyptians.

This is where the "Incubator" model comes in. The idea of an incubator was originally created by businesses, but we've adopted it for the non-profit world. Nahdet El Mahrousa Incubator for innovative development ideas is the first of its kind in
Egypt and the world.

It is the model we can use to test a pilot project and, if the project proves successsful, it can be implemented nation-wide. This way, any Egyptian youth with an idea and the commitment to make Egypt a better place has a chance to make it a reality.

So if you have a project idea that fits NM criteria, through the NM Incubator, we will offer you the institutional framework, management and research support, training, and a small loan to ensure the success and growth of your new project idea.

What does the NM Incubator offers projects specifically?

Through an effective cost-sharing system, incubated projects typically benefit from Nahdet El Mahrousa Incubator in a number of ways:

Human Resources: Support in accessing and recruiting full-time/part-time staff, volunteers or interns for each project.
Institutional framework: Until they become independent entities, NM provides the institutional framework for all incubated projects. It acts as their legal, accounting and financial umbrella; providing all institutional systems and framework to run these projects.
Legal assistance: through some corporate partnerships and professional support
Project development: Project design and proposal development services.
Strategic planning: through NM pool of volunteers.
Proposal writing: through NM pool of volunteers.
Secondary Research: through our networks NM provides incubated projects research support on potential partners, success stories, local and international best practices etc.
Training: in-house trainign provided through pool of volunteers in addition to access to subzidised or free training opportunities in partnerships with corporate organizations.
Funding: NM connects projects with potential funding sources
Networking and external communication: access to technical resources, donor contacts, research and academic resources, publicity and media, and professional branding support are also available for projects.
Infrastructure: NM provides communication facilities (24 hour fast internet access, telephone lines and email accounts), as well as, business facilities (including a fully equipped meeting room, shared computers/printers/scanners) for all incubated projects.
Financial support: a one-time small funding is available for projects starting up based upon availability.

Green Arm

The Green Arm is a platform for youth-led environmental initiatives in Egypt that address environmental problems of the urban community and promotes green living. Our agenda is tailored to local conditions and priorities.

Our goal is to ignite an environmental movement to achieve widespread cultural change towards socially responsible green living in urban communities and improved health and environmental sustainability in the cities and streets of Egypt.

Our approach focuses on proactive networking among existing CSOs and promoting mass collaboration of relevant grassroots efforts.

We value the importance of connecting people to the earth and give priority to initiatives that use outdoor activities and sports to encourage youth to “go out”, out of isolation and detachment from both their natural environment and the outdoor urban environment. We believe that such initiatives restore the ownership of one's surroundings, and hence stimulate young people to preserve and restore the environment.

We strive to:

Promote youth advocacy and activism and the incremental elimination of the apathy that is currently infested in many of Egyptian youth.
Induce a sense of ownership of both the pristine natural environments and the urban environments of Egypt.
Appreciate the environment, and the cultural and natural heritage of Egypt and understanding its value and vulnerability.
Encourage activity initiative as a backbone/platform for environmental advocacy.
Condition society to encourage women in outdoor activities and sports, and promote social acceptance and respect in this regard.

Why the Green Arm?

The urban environment in Egypt is rapidly deteriorating. The deterioration found in the most affluent parts of Cairo, reflects how even advantaged residents are giving up and detaching themselves from the urban environment; sealed offices, homes, and cars. Those who cannot afford this isolation are even suffering more.

Today, many youth-led environmental initiatives are emerging, and seeking support to really make an impact. The have a comparative advantage of creative energy, demand-driven action, and powerful online networking compared to the older organizations in this field. This should be appreciated and supported with professional guidance to address the right problems, to sustain their activity, andto offer institutional support.

Other than providing support, encouraging peer empowerment among youth through networking and positive communication is the culture that we strive for. "practice what they preach" in terms of improvement of the urban environment and greener living. Having a youth led organization will provide a credible model for social change.

Who are we?

A team of members and volunteers of Nahdet El-Mahrousa with the needed expertise mix in environmental and social ventures and experience in environmental education and awareness.

The Young Innovators’ Awards (YIA) Program was incubated at NM in 2004 with the mission of stimulating the culture of research and development (R&D) in Egypt. The program aims to positively impact the scientific culture in Egypt in three ways: by supporting research and development activities; empowering and developing scientists, engineers and researchers; and creating linkages between university research and industrial applications. Over the past years, the program has grown to cover all national Egyptian universities, including all 67 faculties of Engineering, Agriculture and Sciences, and has implemented partnership with numerous businesses, government agencies, and educational institutions. To-date, more than 2,500 young scientists, engineers and researchers in these universities have received the YIA awards. YIA’s Inspiration: ·

The Award for Excellence in Graduation Projects (Application Open Deadline 28th of Feb, 2012)

The Program sponsors a merit-based competition that provides research projects, developed by students in Egypt’s national universities, EGP 6,000 to implement their project. Applicants submit an entry form endorsed by their academic advisor, and a proposal detailing the project plan and budget projections. The selected students will be affiliated within the Engineering, Science, Computer Science and Agriculture faculties (78 faculties). The evaluation of the projects is entrusted to experienced scientists and practitioners in the area of R&D, with possible participation from private sector donors’ representatives. 2004-2005 Achievements

A pilot has been implemented at Cairo University, Faculty of Engineering, Electronics and Telecommunications Department. The team raised EGP 32,000 from individual contributions towards renewable annual awards. Six awards have been disbursed to thirty students among the top in their class. One of these groups participated in the scientific contest of the University of Waterloo, Canada, and won second place while another participated in a similar contest in India. This was a good start for the YIA award winners to break the mold and pursue their dreams nationally and internationally.

2005-2006 Achievements

The Team raised EGP 65,000 from individual/family contributions towards renewable annual awards. The competition took place at Cairo University and Ain-Shams University, Faculty of Engineering, Telecommunication and Mechanical Department. 10 Awards have been disbursed to 50 students. One group was offered a part-time job by Proctor & Gamble and is currently discussing the purchase of their project.

2006-2007 Achievements

The team successfully built an ongoing sponsorship agreement with British Gas (EGP 75,000), Mobinil (EGP 75,000), Challenger Limited (EGP 50,000), Proctor & Gamble (EGP 40,000) and Adcom Ericsson (EGP 30,000). We also raised EGP 56,000 from individual/family contributions towards renewable annual awards. The team successfully built a cooperation agreement with Alexandria University, Mansura University, and Minia University, while also introducing the Chemical Engineering and Bio-Medical Engineering Departments, extending the YIA reach to six national universities--serving a pool of ~200 students.

2007-2008 Achievements

The project is now a sustainable national program that is applied in all 22 national faculties of Engineering, stimulating the culture of Research and Development by supporting engineering graduation projects as well as junior innovative ideas. The team has partnered with the Industrial Modernization Centre (IMC) to fund this initiative.

2008-2009 Achievements

On top of the annual Awards, the YIA added an Internships program and a Scholarships program, both in partnership with the IMC. Also, the YIA partnered with Samsung and the International Youth Foundation (IYF) to inaugurate the Samsung Real Dreams Awards, which offers EGP 10,000 in seed money to young Egyptians looking to expand their prototypes into a business start-up. With its four distinct programs, the YIA can now help fund students’ experiences and projects at all stages of their education and even after their graduation.

- Renovated and furnished 200 sq. m space to serve as the office premises at Cairo University’s Faculty of Engineering.

- Organized 2 training fairs for the students, with the following results:

- Total of 25 courses/workshops were offered to the students.

- Approximately 2500 students registered for the different courses/workshops.

- Approximately 600 students attended the different courses/workshops.

- Facilitated other lectures, courses, awards and funds by NM YIA, British Council, and Social Fund for Development for approximately a total of 200 students.

اعتبارا من فبراير 2007.. وقد ساعدت على تركيز الاتنباه على المشكلة ولا زالت تعمل على حملات مكافحة العدوى

التهاب الكبد الفيروسي..ماذا نعرف عنه؟

فيروس التهاب الكبد الوبائي: ماذا نعرف عنه؟؟

مرض الالتهاب الكبدى (سي) يتسبب به فيروس

والفيروس عباره عن مخلوق مجهرى لا يتكاثر إلا بداخل خلية حية عائلة.. يقوم الفيروس بغزو هذه الخلية ويستعملها كبنية تحتية لإنتاج فيروسات جديدة, وهذه العملية تسبب تدمير الخلية العائلة

أحيانا تدخل هذه الفيروسات إلى داخل الخلية لكنها لا تبدأ بالتكاثر وتدمير الخلية العائلة فورا, وفى هذه الحالة.. يكون الفيروس مستترا.. وقد لا يبدأ عملياته التدميرية إلا بعد فترة زمنية تتراوح من أسابيع إلى عقود.

فيروس التهاب الكبد يهاجم خلايا الكبد البشري بصفة محددة.. ولا تنشط العدوى بداخل كل شخص تعرض للفيروس..فيوجد حوالي 20% من المتعرضين للفيروس تكون أجسامهم قادرة على إزالة الفيروس منها بدون أى نتائج على المدى البعيد

أما الـ 80% الباقين فهم فى خطر بسبب نشاط الفيروس المتقدم وتدميره للكبد ..هذا الضرر قد يفصح عن نفسه على شكل التهاب , أو سرطان, او جرح الكبد , والفشل الكبدى

يطلق على فيروس التهاب الكبد الوبائي سي اسم (القاتل الصامت) , فقد تمر عقود على المريض دون ملاحظة للفيروس ودون تطور لأعراض المرض

يوجد حوالى 15 مليون مصرى مصاب بفيروس التهاب الكبد , وقد تم اعتباره وباءا قوميا.. ذلك الوباء القومى الذى لم يلق الاهتمام الكافى حتى الآن.. وسيصير الوباء أسوأ حالا , ونحن لا نشارك بشكل فعال لإنهاء هذا الكابوس

أفضل الطرق وأكثرها فاعلية للسيطرة على هذا الفيروس هو المنع.

.فيروس التهاب الكبد سي ينتقل عن طريق الاتصال المباشر للدم النظيف بالدم المصاب , تماما كالفيروس المسبب لمرض الإيدز

أكثر الأسباب شيوعا لنشر العدوى هو الاشتراك فى استعمال الابر الوريدية وإعادة استخدامها

ويحدث هذا غالبا بين ممارسي الرعاية الصحية ومستعملى المخدر الوريدي..محاولات التعقيم التى تقوم بها الرعاية الصحية تكون عادة ناقصة وتفشل فى الحد من خطر هذا الفيروس بين المرضى

ينبغى أن يكون المرضى متيقظين ويسألوا دائما عن أدوات مكافحة العدوى التى يستعملها الطبيب أو طبيب الاسنان لتقليل التعرض للفيروس

لابد من التأكد من كفاءة تعقيم الابر وتخزينها فى غلاف معقم محكم الغلق

اطلب رؤية تغليف أى جهاز خاص بالرعاية الصحية يفتح امامك

اضمن بأن الممارس قد تخلص من المادة المستعملة بشكل صحيح

أيضا فى حقل الرعاية الصحية, نقل الدم متورط فى نشر الفيروس ,ان كنت مصابا بأى مرض ينتقل عن طريق الدم فيجب ألا تتبرع بالدم, حتى لا تعرض الآخرين لخطر الإصابة بالفيروس

مكافحة العدوى فى مراكز الرعاية الصحية شديد الأهمية , لكن مازال هناك العديد من الطرق الاخرى لتحمى نفسك والآخرين وتقليص الإصابة بالفيروس

لابد أن نلوم أيضا التشارك بأدوات النظافة الشخصية..كالتشارك بفرشاة الأسنان وشفرات الحلاقة..فهذه الأدوات تتعرض فعليا للدم وإن كان بكميات صغيرة قد تمر بدون ملاحظة

حافظ على أدواتك الشخصية بشدة, إذا كنت ممن يتشارك بالأدوات , فلتشارك بالأشياء الآمنة كقطع الصابون مثلا, وإن كنت محبا للمشاركة أكثر فلتشارك بالشامبو المفضل لديك

قد ينتقل هذا الفيروس أيضا عن طريق العلاقات الجنسية كاحتمال ضئيل ..تماما كما هو الحال مع فيروس الإيدز

إن كان أحدكما – أنت أو شريك حياتك – مصابا بفيروس التهاب الكبد سي

على اية حال.. إذا اعتقدت ان شريكك قد يسبب لك خطرا من اكتساب هذا الفيروس أو العكس .. يمكنك استعمال الواقى الذكرى..الواقيات موجوده فى كل مكان وآمنه تماما ومناسبة...فلا عذر لك لألا تستعملها

طرق المعالجة القياسية للعدوى الفيروسية لمرض الكبد المزمن يشتمل على نظام علاج بالانتر فيرون.. بالإضافة إلى الريبوفارين

حاليا..خلال كورس مدته 48 أسبوعا أتت نسبة نجاح العلاج 50% من الحالات , وكلف هذا 80,000 جنيه مصرى. أكثر المصابين بهذا الفيروس لا يستطيعون تحمل هذه النفقات, فيلجأون للطب البديل واستخدام الوصفات العشبية ....إلخ والتى تكون اقل كفاءة

هناك حاليا عدد من التجارب تتم على العقاقير الجديدة التى قد تكون اكثر كفاءة..لكن العقاقير الجديده التى ستظهر فى الأسواق خلال السنوات القليلة القادمة قد تكون أغلى بكثير مما هو الآن

وهكذا يكون منع انتقال الفيروس هو أفضل استراتيجية لمحاربته واستئصال خطره فى المستقبل

الكبد المصرى: الكارثة الصاعدة

القضية الأولى : نحن المصريون نحب أن نأكل الكبد, لكننا لا نعلم شيئا عن الفيروسات التى تعيش على أكل أكبادناالكبد هو واحد من أهم الأعضاء فى أجسامنا, فهو المسؤول عن عمليات التمثيل الغذائي(الأيض) ,والتخلص من السمومالتهاب الكبد الفيروسي هو مرض تسببه مجموعة من الفيروسات التى تصيب الكبدوالاخطر من بينها هو فيروس التهاب الكبد (بي) و(سي)(HBV) & (HCV)تلك الفيروسات تعيش بداخل خلايا الكبد..تتضاعف وتنتهك مصادر هذه الخلايا لمصلحتها الخاصة, وبعد ذلك تدمر هذه الخلايا وتهاجم غيرها.. وفى النهاية تتسبب فى تلف الكبدتلك الفيروسات تسبب أضرارا قد تتخذ أشكالا عديدة, بدءا من الالتهاب الذى يؤثر على وظائف الكبد وحتى الفشل الكبدى التاموهذا الفشل يحدث بسبب دمار الخلايا الكبديه ليحل محله نسيج ليفى فيما يعرف باسم( التهاب النسيج الليفى).. ثم تأتى مرحلة التليف الكبدى وأحيانا سرطان الكبديمكننا أن نسمي فيروس التهاب الكبد( سي) بالقاتل الصامت ,لأن حوالى 80% من المصابين لاتظهر لديهم علامات أو أعراض للمرض لمدة طويلة جدا. (CDC, 2006).وعادة يكتشف المرض بعد أن يكون الأوان قد فات

حقيقة أم خيال؟: يوجد اثنان من كل عشرة أشخاص فى مصر مصابان بفيروس التهاب الكبدى( سي) القاتل!!!؟وقد أعلنت منظمة الصحة العالمية أن هذا المرض لهو مشكلة صحية عالمية يعانى منها تقريبا 3% من سكان العالم(تقريباً 170-200 مليون شخص) مصابين بفيروس الالتهاب الكبدى(HCV advocate,2003)مصر لديها أعلى نسبة إصابة بعدوى التهاب الكبد الفيروسي( سي ), تقريبا 22% من أصل 73 مليون نسمه(SSI,2004).أيضا من المتوقع أن يزداد معدل الوفيات بهذا الفيروس أربع مرات عن المعدل الحالى خلال العقدين القادمينهذه الزيادة المثيرة فى مصر سببها يرجع إلى الزيادة الغير متوقعه لمعدلات العدوى اثناء الانشغال بالحملة القومية ضد البلهارسيا فى العقود الثلاثة الاخيرة واستخدام السرنجات الزجاجية لأكثر من شخص دون أن يتم تعقيمها تعقيما كافيا .. أيضا بسبب الجهل العام حول المرض وطرق انتقاله وكيفية منعهولهذا السبب, أطلقنا مشروع الحملة القومية(الوعى بفيروسات التهاب الكبد الوبائي ومقاتلتها),ويهدف إلى مساعدة وتعليم المجتمع المصرى استراتيجية النظرة الوقائية للسيطرة على الانتشار الوبائي الفيروسي فى مصر.وسيكون هذا عن طريق إنتاج مصادر الإعلام الجماهيرى ( كتيبات / مطويات /فيديو / أشرطة تسجيلية /مواقع انترنتيه / تليفزيون / راديو / عروض / ورش عمل) أثناء المرحلة الاولية , وإعلان هذه المواد للجماهير ومراكز التدريب الريفى والمنظمات غير الحكومية لتسليم هذه المواد إلى الأهداف الموجهه

Inspiration
Namaa is a youth led initiative that was originally instigated by young activists who attended the GTZ Cairo summer School 2005. The program was initially developed to fill the a gap between the needs of organizations, institutions and NGOs working in development on one hand and the qualifications of young people interested in contributing to developmental efforts in Egypt on the other. However, this was not the end; rather it was the start for a group of young people that was quite motivated to rearticulate the necessity of associating the developmental process with certain values that would assure the sustainability and authenticity of this process. Eventually, the utmost target that all the initiative members aim to is that all the developmental effort would contribute to a real renaissance of Egypt.

Impact
- Around 90 young Egyptians became socially motivated and most of them became civically engaged. They became more aware of their responsibilities towards their country and they learned that they should dare to dream of a better Egypt. They also believe that they are adequately empowered to fulfill that dream if they have enough passion and persistence.

- Summer school graduates have applied what they’ve learned through their experience in Namaa to the projects/initiatives that they were already engaged in. Moreover, some of them even applied them in their professional work experience.

- A large network has been established through Tawasul salon between the initiative and other sister initiatives and individual activists in the different aspects of the development field

- A virtual development library that includes full documentation of the project (video and audio recordings, manuals for each course and Academic curriculum on CDs) was established.

What is NM Incubator?

NM seeks out innovative development ideas across Egypt. NM offers institutional framework, management and research support, training, small grants and loans. Volunteerism, networking, awareness and capacity building of individuals and organizations are the strategies used by NM to contribute to Egypt’s development.
