Egyptian Expatriates for Development

Context:

Millions of Egyptians reside outside of Egypt some of which are highly successful and accomplished experts in the various fields. These expatriates have extensive skill base, knowledge, expertise and financial resources that are not sufficiently mobilized to contribute to Egypt’s development process.  Many Egyptian Expatriates aspire to find opportunities for investment in Egypt or participate in developmental activities such as policy reform, knowledge transfer and training.  The reluctance of returning back stems from the lack of trust in the bureaucratic system, cumbersome logistics, red tape, etc.

Background:

EED was initiated by NM members based in Egypt and the US the EED Programme which focused on knowledge transfer in the Information Technology sector had a successful pilot phase.  After a series of 7 pilot workshops mobilizing Egyptian Expatriates from the US and Canada’s IT sector like Cisco, Intel, etc, the programme is seeking partnerships with the government and private sectors to establish a national program to mobilize a significant number of the Egyptian expatriate professionals to transfer their knowledge and Expertise now refocusing on the investment, technology and trade areas.
