Namaa’ was officially announced as a part of Nahdet Elmahrousa incubated projects in 2005. The first tool that has been introduced to apply Namaa' vision was "Namaa' Summer School”. The school was conducted on July 2006, July 2007 and once again on July 2008.
Through these years, the school has acted as a one month interdisciplinary and a critical thinking endeavor. Participants are exposed to ideas from right versus left, macro versus grass rooted, governmental versus oppositional, secular versus faith based and local versus international perspectives. With no specific preference in mind, our vision is that participants gain the ability to unravel their surroundings and to clearly interpret the indicators of the developmental situation in Egypt.
In August 2008, Namaa’ founders along with some graduates of summer school decided to assess Namaa' vision comparing with its first level tool "Yearly Summer School" . The result of such assessment revealed the necessity of expanding Namaa’s floor so that it would end up as an open learning platform for youth all over the year. To achieve that target they came up with the following tools:
1. Summer School for Sustainable Development
As mentioned before, it’s a one month journey through different developmental schools of thought followed by field visits to reflect the intact work in real life situations. For more details see summer school section
Tawasul is a monthly social gathering for sharing experiences, ideas and thoughts. The main aim behind this gathering is to expand the networking process between Namaa members and other initiatives ‘members or any other interested volunteers. Also, it serves as an open platform for tackling crucial developmental issues by discussing the different literature issued concerning that topic.
At the end of each summer school, students present their ideas for graduation projects in the closing symposium. Then, they start scrutinizing their own ideas and the feasibility of their application in reality under the supervision of Namaa team members. Namaa' then encourages the graduates of the school to transfer their projects into reality by offering them technical support whenever it is possible.
As an incubator and a learning platform, Namaa organize a series of workshops to raise the capacities of Namaa graduates in order to empower them with practical tools to execute their ideas. Workshops such as: Proposal writhing, fundraising, curriculum development, evaluation techniques, marketing, script writing… etc were conducted so far.
