How do we intend to accomplish our mission?

Research and Development (R&D), itself, is an important bridge factor between too much consumerism

and valuable production. It involves the nurturing of homegrown know-how, or its acquisition, and

thereby obtains more value in any supply chain. The need for more qualified Egyptian scientists, with a

focus on R&D, is self-evident.

The Program aims to achieve its goals by:

        I.            Sponsoring graduation projects at Egypt’s national universities, their engineering departments for a start - complemented with a lecture series on the topic of R&D – delivered by top-notch scientists/professionals involved in the field;

     II.            Assisting promising young Egyptian scientists in securing R&D internship opportunities with reputed corporations/research institutes, nationally and internationally;

   III.            Assisting promising young Egyptian scientists in securing scholarship opportunities to pursue masters and doctoral studies in the field of R&D or related thereto;

  IV.            Building an R&D library;

     V.            Finally, with the maturity of the foregoing activities/goals, evolving a National R&D Fund to incorporate those components and offer young Egyptian scientists international scholarship and internship opportunities.

What is the Annual competition?

We institute an annual competition to stimulate excellence in scientific research among university students. Successful candidates are awarded research grants to fulfill their graduation projects.

  • Student teams complete an entry form endorsed by their academic advisor, and a proposal detailing the project plan and budget projections.
  • NM constitutes a committee for evaluating the project proposals submitted and selecting the winning teams.
  • The source of the financial assistance are either:
    • Individual/Family Awards = 6,000 L.E.
    • Or Corporate Awards = 7,500 L.E.
      • 6,000 goes to a designated graduation project
      • 1,500 goes to NM management (Program Co-Directors)

What are the Awareness Lectures Series?

We also arrange a series of science and technology lectures and training workshops designed to promote the culture of research and development (R&D) – delivered by top-notch scientists/professionals involved in the field;

  1. The first session concentrates on the general awareness on the importance of R&D. It aims to equip students with necessary skills for writing proper proposals and papers in their field of specialization.
  2. The second session focuses on raising awareness on the need to create more patentable works for Egypt, as well as their proper registration, which allow innovators to secure the rights to their inventions. It also focuses on the role of Intellectual Property Rights in uplifting national economies.
  3. The third session exposes students to the prospects of commercialization of innovative scientific ideas and the concept of venture capital.
  4. The fourth session informs students about relevant scholarships, research grants, assistantship opportunities, which may be available to them to pursue graduate studies.

Academic library: The YIA team started a small library on R&D. Three books were purchased: two directly linking the potential of R&D to development, and the third on the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs).
