Award for Excellence in Graduation Projects

 

 The Award for Excellence in Graduation Projects (Application Open, Deadline  28th of Feb, 2012)  

 The Awards for Excellence in Undergraduate Research Program aims to positively impact undergraduate students in Egyptian universities by enhancing the scientific culture around them, to produce better quality scientists in the future.  The immediate goal is to help graduating students gain access to training, funding, information, equipment, and supplies that may better meet the needs of their research projects. The Program sponsors a merit-based competition that provides research projects, developed by students in Egypt’s national universities, EGP 6,000 to implement their project.  Applicants submit an entry form endorsed by their academic advisor, and a proposal detailing the project plan and budget projections. The selected students will be affiliated within the Engineering, Science and Agriculture faculties (67 faculties). The evaluation of the projects is entrusted to experienced scientists and practitioners in the area of R&D, with possible participation from private sector donors’ representatives.

The program aims to positively impact the scientific culture in Egypt in three ways:

 

  • Supporting research and development activities;
  • Empowering and developing scientists, engineers and researchers; and
  • Creating linkages between university research and industrial applications

 

 Students who win the awards are required to attend 3 workshops on the topic of R&D across Egypt’s national universities.  The lectures/workshops are conducted with the aid of top-notch scientists and practitioners involved in the field that cover the following topics:

 

  •  Proposal writing for R&D competitions
  •  Research tools & the role of intellectual property
  • Commercialization & Venture Capital and Applying for Scholarship Opportunities.

 

 Who can apply?

The competition is open to all Egyptian students studying in Public Engineering, Science and Agriculture faculties, and should be in their last year of undergraduate study.How to Apply?

To apply, please follow the instructions below:

Applicants should download the Application Form. In case of any technical difficulties, please contact the YIA Program coordinators at   

  • Step 2: Check  Application guidelines 
    •  Project idea must be an undergraduate graduation project
    •  Project can be submitted by an individual or a team
    •  Submissions can be in English or Arabic.
    •  Application is to be typed using an Arial font (size 11)
    •  Each project must be recommended by a supervisor (from respective  faculty) who has the sufficient scientific or technological background    related to the project
    •  Application Section G. Project Supervisor must be signed and scanned
    •  Applications should be submitted using this Application Form
    •  All sections of the application have to be complete
    •  Submitted applications should not exceed 10 pages
    •  All application pages should be numbered.
    •  Applications must be in MSWord or PDF format only
    •  Project title should not exceed five words
  • Step 3: Submit Application
    • Applicants should ensure that all parts of the Application Form are complete and signed prior to submission.
    • When you submit your application, make sure the title of your email and your attached document title include name of university, faculty, department, and project
    • All proposals must be submitted to yia_submission@nahdetmasr.org

 

 

Why is it essential to send your idea through this application?

 

The YIA program operates in more than 67 faculties nationwide, receiving more than 400 innovative ideas annually, therefore there is a need to structure the process of receiving, evaluating, and selecting the winning projects. All ideas submitted using a different template will be disqualified automatically. The application covers all the essential points that your project evaluation will be based on.
