Who is eligible to apply for the YIA award?
The YIA program offers two kinds of financial awards; Graduation Projects and Innovative Ideas.

(1) Only graduating class students are eligible to apply for the Funding for Graduation Projects. Selected graduation projects would qualify for a financial reward of EGP 6,000.

(2) Anyone of 35 years of age or younger is eligible apply for the funding for Innovative Ideas. Selected Innovative Ideas would qualify for a financial award of EGP 4,000.


How do I apply? 
The YIA program organizes a series of awareness lectures, the first of these lectures teaches interested applicants about proposal writing, the same format that students seeking the grant should use when submitting their project proposals.  These proposals must be sent to . I am studying at a private university. Can I still apply?
For now our priority is national universities since they do not have sufficient access to training, funding, information, equipment, and supplies that may better meet the needs of their research projects.

 
How much is the award?
Starting from the term 2008-2009 the YIA program is granting EGP 6,000 for graduation projects and EGP 4,000 for innovative ideas.


Do I need to have a prototype for my project before applying?
No. The Young Innovators’ Awards (YIA) program funds student ideas.  We want to give students a good chance to transform their innovative ideas to first-rate graduation projects.


What should we write in the supervisor’s recommendation letter for our projects’ proposals?
The recommendation letter should be singed, scanned and sent along with your project proposal via email.  It should be signed by the project supervisor, stating the name of the project and the name of the team members. There is no standard recommendation letter requested.


When is the deadline to apply in my university?
The YIA team has extended the deadline for receiving graduation projects’ proposals to the following universities:

  7. Faculty of Engineering in Shubra – Banha University
  8. Faculty of Engineering in Matareya – Helwan University
  9. Faculty of Engineering – Kafr El Sheikh
  10. Banha Technology Institute
  11. Faculty of Engineering in Shebin El Kom- Menoufeya University
  12. Faculty of Electronic Engineering in Menouf – Menoufeya University
  13. Faculty of Petroleum Engineering- Suez Canal University
  14. Faculty of Engineering in Port Said- Suez Canal University
Note: The deadline for the remaining Engineering Faculties (not mentioned in the above list) will be announced soon.

 
When will The YIA program announce the winners?
Winners will be announced during the 1st week of March. 


Who evaluates my proposal?
Local and expat Egyptian professors and private sector representatives who share our passion for Egypt’s development. These evaluators are pioneers in their respective fields.

 
How will I know if I am a winner?
One of the YIA Team members will contact you when the evaluation process is complete. The YIA team handles a large amount of proposals and would appreciate it if applicants wait until the YIA team contacts them. 

No phone calls allowed.


I am a YIA winner. Do I get a certificate of participation?
Yes. All YIA winners are entitled to a certificate of participation which they can pick up from the YIA office after the program’s end date. One of the YIA program coordinators will contact you by the end of the academic year to arrange receiving your certificates from the YIA office.


Does YIA buy my project with the fund?
The YIA has no copy rights whatsoever to students’ graduation projects. All projects strictly belong to its authors, the students.


What happens if someone receives the money but doesn’t carry out the project till the end of the year?
The YIA program’s aim is to promote innovation among Egypt’s future scientists, so you are awarded for your innovative idea not the final product, however we trust YIA winners and believe in their commitment and dedications to working on their ideas till the end of the year. 


What is the date of the 1st awareness lecture in my faculty?
For information regarding the date and time of the 1st awareness lecture in your faculty please check our updated calendar  on the website, ask the head of your department or simply send us your inquiry at yia-info@nahdetmasr.org.


Where do I find out about the remaining 3 awareness lectures?
Each project’s contact person is updated with the 3 awareness lectures’ date, hour and location through his/her email and phone.


Where is your funding from?
The YIA program is sustaining active partnerships with organizations and corporate sector. Our partners support us with funding in order for us to achieve our mission and sustain our impact. The list of our esteemed partners  include the Industrial Modernization Center (IMC), British Gas, P&G, Challenger, DuPont, Mobinil ADCOM/Ericsson and others. Also the YIA receives extraordinary support from individual/family donors who share our vision for a better Egypt.


What is in it for you?
The YIA program is an incubated project at Nahdet El Mahrousa. NM seeks to make a positive & lasting impact on Egypt’s cultural, economic and social development. Sharing the same vision for Egypt, the YIA understands the pressing need, to enhance the training of young scientists; and, equally, to promote their science and technology related innovations. Strong and successful Egyptian scientists will contribute to the country's positive development.


How can I support the YIA?
The YIA program is always looking for ways to serve young professionals better. Suggestions and ideas are always welcome. You can help the YIA by providing us with new ideas to improve the program, especially if you are YIA alumni. We also seek individuals, families, and organization to contribute financially to the program’s fund in support of student and their research projects.

 
How do I learn more about NM and its activities?
You are welcome to visit Nahdet El Mahrousa. We have periodical informational sessions at the NM office from 6-7 pm. Please call +(202) 2575 1888 to find out when the next session will be. NM also organizes presentations outside of the office for groups or organizations. If three or more people at your organization or institution are interested to hear about NM and cannot make it to the information session, please call 2575 1888 and we can arrange for an NM employee to make a presentation at your premises.
