According to a recent CAPMAS survey, 60% of young scientists are skeptical and disappointed with the culture of R&D in Egypt, while 800,000 scientists, professors and experts have left the country looking for better opportunities and a chance to improve their quality of living. In an effort to combat this fact, the YIA Program, in collaboration with the Misr El Kheir Foundation, will be offering 20 Masters and 10 PhD scholarships for students in national universities in the faculties of Engineering, Science and Agriculture.
Masters students will be awarded EGP 15,000 annually and PhD students EGP 24,000 annually. Accepted MSc applicants will be covered for up to two academic years, whereas, accepted PhD applicants will be covered financially for up to four academic years.
The awards will only be given to students who demonstrate serious research topics as well as a sincere dedication to their topic of research. Winning students will be assigned external supervisors throughout the duration of their scholarship, who will regularly check in on the student’s progress. Additionally, students will be required to submit quarterly reports to update their external supervisor, as well as a final end of a the year report, that will detail the research completed. The final end of year report will also determine if the student is eligible for an additional year of funding.
The scholarship topics must address one of the following topics: Water, Livestock, Renewable Energy (solar Energy in particular), Agriculture and Life sciences (e.g., biology, biotechnology, biochemistry).
