I. Background: The Federation was founded by 11 of the most active youth-led NGOs in Cairo, Alexandria and Minia and registered on the 14th of January 2006 at the Egyptian Ministry of Social Solidarity (registration # 4/2006). The federation is considered the official umbrella and hub of all Egyptian youth-led NGOs and NGOs working in the area of youth development. It is targeting to constitute all youth related NGOs in Egypt.
II. Mandate/Mission:
The federation main objectives are: first, to build the capacity of its member NGOs; second, to coordination of development efforts among its member NGOs; and third to improve communication and coordination between the youth civil society (including NGOs and others) and other sectors like the donor, private and governmental sectors in their youth development activities.
III. Founding & Member NGOs:
The founding NGOs are: AIESEC (International Youth Exchange Network), CairoDevelopment No Borders Association (DNB), CairoDreamers of Tomorrow (DoT), Cairo Egyptian Association for Youth and Community Development (EAYCD), Minia Egyptian Young Bankers' Association (EYBA), CairoEntrepreneurship Business Forum (EBF), Alexandria Fat'het Kheir (FK), Cairo Meshwar Association for Community Development (Neshwar), CairoNahdet El Mahrousa (NM), CairoSustainable Development Association (SDA), Alexandria Youth Association for Population and Development (YAPD), Cairo Member NGOs:Alashanek Ya Balady (AYB), CairoAFCA, GizaAdwa El-Mustakbal, El-Areish, North Sinai.
IV. Federation Activities (June 2005-October 2006):
Since its inception in April 2005 as a concept, the Federation has become a hub that promotes linkages, opportunities and support to its member organizations and beyond. Below is a listing of some of the recent activities:
1. Capacity Building activities: Youth NGOs and Activists’ Capacity Building Workshop, Goethe Institute, Cairo, June 2006:.
2. Networking & Promoting Youth Civic Engagement: Yoam El Shabab, June 2005: “Agaza Begad” event, Sawi Cultural center, July 2006: National Program for the Promotion of MDGs among youth, UNDP, Egypt: Partnership with the National Youth Council: Cilantro partnership with Nahdet El Mahrousa: Mass Media & Nile Cultural channel.
3. Regional & International activities: Launching Network of Arab Youth NGOs, League of Arab States: Partnership with the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD) in Egypt: The Algiers Declaration, Bibliotheca Alexandrina: International representation:For different local, regional and international workshops and events, the Federation is serving as a hub that is recognized by regional and international entities such as the League of Arab States, the Swedish Institute of Alexandria, the Ana Lindh foundation, and the different Euro-Mediterranean programs for representation in such events.
